'Noodle' bowl

Writer's picture: Lee KohLee Koh

Inspired by: Timea Sido white stoneware or porcelain slipware bowl. Unfortunately, I didn't have clay slip. So my teacher and I came up with this method of making the bowl. I was aiming for a birds nest effect, but it turned out unexpectedly to look like "Dark Hokkien Fried Noodles" (one of my favourite childhood dishes).

Clay: White earthenware clay, beginners

Method: Using a mixing bowl as a mould, I applied random lengths of uneven coils on the bowls that overlapped. I then stacked three coils together as a base.

Glaze: Gold brown (Sam Mui Kuang pottery, SG043)
